Paper Cranes and lots of new names with “A Kiss From a Paper Rose”

Saturday, 11 July 2015 § 0

June saw another one of our incredibly popular general meet evenings, giving all you lovely ladies a chance to meet and chat with each other with a side order of Origami making hosted by the lovely Lucy and Lauren. It was a fabulous day for new faces with lots of bouncy new characters joining us, hello to you all and how very nice to see you it was!

The meeting kicked off with a branch update from President the lovely Lucy, Finance update from our glamorous treasurer Grace and committee rep’ fantistique Lauren. These three wise women talked us though what has been going on in the branch, inc the recent trip to Whitby, future events such as next months bell ringing evening at Leeds Cathedral, Laurens hobnobbing with the royals at the WI garden party at Buckingham Palace and Graces experiences at the WI AGM at the Albert Hall.

Shameless plugs came from Gemma calling for sponsors for her charity fast to raise money to feed starving children with Pennyappeal and Lucy for any runners wanting to join her at Hyde Park Harriers Runners Club in view of the recent attacks in Leeds on lone female joggers - anyone can try it out and the beginner group runs to the pace of the slowest runner and won't let anyone feel left behind!

As the evening progressed the instagram and Facebook hash tags were flying as our crafting gurus helped guide our ladies into origami excellence with a veritable flock of paper cranes, a bouquet worth of origami roses as well as a selection of craft-stash storing boxes and paper hearts..very impressive ladies! I see 3d Christmas cards in your near future!

We would love to see you all again next month for more fun, friends and fantastical craft fabrications. Remember, Buns & Roses meets on the third Thursday of Every Month, and is a great place to meet new people from a diverse background in Leeds City Centre with monthly workshops and regular social events.

June meeting - Foldfinger

Friday, 17 June 2011 § 0

Last night was our June meeting, entitled Foldfinger.

There was a lot going on, as at the start of the meeting our founding President Georgiana announced that she is stepping down. Gemma is our new President and is well-placed to continue the good work, with her links to the West Yorkshire and National federations.

After all the tears and drama, we continued with our usual meeting business, hearing about our financial situation, the NFWI AGM, the 80s party being organised by the Social Committee, I Love West Leeds Festival and all the other things our Buns & Roses girls are involved in.

Our guest for the evening was Kirsty Ware, origami mistress. She is the curator for Fold for Japan and Night of a Thousand Cranes and hosts origami sessions known as Foldageddon.

Kirsty helped us make boxes, animals and decorations, and we also had chance to make progress on our other craft projects, have a drink, eat cake and natter!

Kirsty demonstrating origami

Check out our puzzled faces!

Origami takes a lot of concentration!

Some of our folds got a bit wonky as the drinks went down!

Penguins were particularly popular

Penguins and swans galore!

A hat, a box and a decoration - a productive evening!

If you want to learn more about origami you can visit Kirsty's blog Night of a Thousand Cranes.

Thanks to all who came - we had around 50 people - members, non-members and several newcomers -  last night and it was a lovely evening all-round. Hopefully see you all again in July!
